With Budget 2027 approaching, the future of further reductions to college fees is uncertain. The Government had previously indicated an intention to lower college fees by €500 bringing the costs to €2,000 a year but Minister James Lawless has said he cannot commit to a further reduction.
Student nurses and midwives across the country continue to face significant financial pressures from college fees and accommodation, travel, food and the everyday costs of living along with the demands of academic study and clinical placements.
We believe that making higher education more affordable must remain a priority. This is why we are asking student nurses and midwives across the country to take part in our letter-writing campaign and to contact their local TDs.
We have prepared a template email which you can personalise with your own details and experience. It only takes a few minutes, but TDs hearing directly from students in their own constituencies can make a real difference.

It’s important that you send the email to each TD individually and include your address where you are registered to vote.
Whether you are in first year, final year or anywhere in between, we are encouraging you to take part so please take a few minutes to send your letter- and encourage your classmates and colleagues to do the same.
