The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation and the Psychiatric Nurses Association have served notice of industrial action in the Donegal Intellectual Disability Services, Árd na Gréine. The industrial action in the form of a work-to-rule will begin on June 2nd 2026.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has stated that the HSE’s recruitment controls must not include nurses and midwives.

Stress, burnout and unsafe conditions were reported by members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation in its 2026 member survey.  

The INMO has reported that April 2026 represents the worst April on record for overcrowding, with 11,175 patients waiting for hospital beds around the country.

Over 3,415 patients have gone without a bed in the week following the Easter bank holiday according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation. 699 patients are without a bed in Irish hospitals today.
