Your INMO Executive Council has met twice since Monday and has endorsed the participation of INMO members in the escalation of the ICTU Public Service unions' pay dispute, taking the form of a public sector strike on Thursday, November 12th 2026.
The strike will involve work stoppages and regional rallies at eight locations across the country.
The rally locations are as follows: Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Sligo, Letterkenny, Tullamore, Waterford. All rallies will take place between 12pm and 2pm on Thursday, November 12th.
The INMO Executive Council has endorsed the following arrangements for the industrial action:
- Notification of strike action will apply from the start of shifts on Thursday, November 12th until 5pm.
- The current Work to Rule will remain in place up to, during and following the strike.
- Emergency services will continue to be provided. Meetings with the HSE will take place today to agree the necessary derogations/exemptions.
- The derogation/exemption process will continue to be managed nationally.
- Strike committees will remain in place in each location. On the day of the rallies, strike committees should remain at base to coordinate the provision of emergency services.
- All INMO members who are not providing derogated care will be expected to attend the rally closest to them.
The rising cost of living and the additional demands being placed on nurses and midwives are very real issues for our members. It is important that we demonstrate the strength of feeling across our membership and ensure that these issues are heard and understood by Government.
Those providing emergency and derogated services on the day will be relying on colleagues who are rostered off, retired or currently undertaking their educations and training as student nurses and midwives to represent them at the rallies. Their participation will be particularly important in ensuring that the voice of nurses and midwives is heard.
I would encourage all members who are not providing derogated care to make every effort to attend their nearest rally. This is an issue that affects all of us, and it is important that we stand together on the day.
As a member of the ICTU Public Services negotiating team for these pay talks, I want to be clear that the offers put forward by Government would not have been acceptable to you or reflective of the value of the work you do. Government proposed a pay increase of 6.75%, alongside an additional 1% through local bargaining, spread over two and a half years.
We know, from meeting members across the country in the lead-up to this strike and on the picket lines, that nurses and midwives are struggling with significant cost-of-living pressures. This is very much at the forefront of our minds throughout these discussions, and we remain determined to secure an outcome that properly recognises the contribution of public servants.
Preparations are now well underway for the regional rallies, involving all 19 unions participating in this action. We will be in touch shortly with further information on transport arrangements and meeting points for next Thursday. We will do everything we can to make attending your nearest rally as straightforward as possible.
