INMO object to the lack of engagement in Killarney Community Hospital

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has objected to the lack of required engagement with the HSE regarding staffing increases necessary before transfer of services in Killarney Community Hospital to a new building.

INMO Industrial Relations Executive, Kathryn Courtney said:

The INMO and the members we represent in Killarney Community Hospital are becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of engagement by the HSE regarding the transfer to the new building. Contrary to what the HSE has advised the public, the INMO has had no communication with HSE senior management since May 2025, despite numerous requests from the INMO for same, concerning safe staffing levels and the model that will be utilised in the new building.

INMO members employed at Killarney Community Hospital recognise the benefits the new building will bring to the people of Killarney and Kerry in general. The transfer of services should also help alleviate the growing pressures on University Hospital Kerry. However, a building to be useful must be staffed and staffed safely. INMO members have been left in the dark regarding the proposed opening date and engagement on staffing, which is necessary and must be completed prior to the move.

The INMO and our members have requested urgent engagement and consultation with the unions so that Killarney Community Nursing Unit can be opened safely, with an agreed transfer date and appropriate staffing and governance.
