INO Asks LRC To Intervene In Staff Cut-Backs At Sligo General Hospital. 21/09/07

PRESS RELEASE, Friday, September 21st, 2007

The Irish Nurses Organisation has asked the LRC to intervene urgently at Sligo General
Hospital in relation to a proposed unilateral decision by hospital management to cease
employment of agency nurses and to re-deploy nurses from other frontline areas.

Hospital management have not discussed how they intend to maintain the current level of
patient services without negatively impacting on patients.  The 30 agency nurses to be
affected  are predominantly newly qualified graduates from St Angela’s College, Sligo
who are rostered members of the team in ward areas.

Once again there has been no consultation with the unions despite them being
available for discussion.

Speaking today, Maura Hickey, INO Industrial Relations Officer for the North West said:

“This is yet another example of the heavy handed dictatorial approach by the
employers.”
