Q. What are the conditions under which Supplementary Pension is payable
The occupational pension paid to a Class A employee is based on the assumption that the pensioner also receives the Contributory State Pension. However, where this does not happen, a supplementary pension may be payable under the relevant public service pension scheme to bridge the gap, provided that:
- He/she does not enter other employment which involves the payment of a social insurance contribution and
- Due to circumstances outside his/her control, fails to qualify for the following Social Welfare benefits or qualifies for such benefits at less than the maximum personal rate:
- Jobseeker’s Benefit
- Illness Benefit
- Invalidity Pension
- State Pension (Contributory)
