Aileen Rohan from the INMO library team outlines the wide range of services and electronic resources provided to members
September brings with it new school bags and the return of traffic to the roads as children eagerly return to school. It also heralds the commencement of many academic nursing and midwifery courses, as well as courses for post-registration nurses and midwives seeking to up-skill and build on their education.
College life can be challenging after the experience of secondary school or after a break from studying. Unlike school, you are completely responsible for your own learning and for accessing the support services that are available, if you are having any difficulties.
It is worth attending all induction talks about IT support and library services to see what is available. Success in college requires you to keep on top of reading and course work and plan in advance for all assignment deadlines. College semesters are short and deadlines will be looming before you are properly established in the course. One tip is to look at reading lists and assignment requirements for your modules at the very beginning of the semester.
As members of the INMO, nurses and midwives have access to specialist services provided by the INMO library. The library aims to provide a tailored service to members and offers a wide range of resources to support members throughout their educational career. Whether you are looking for assistance in finding items from your reading list or would like a refresher course in basic skills such as IT, referencing or note-taking, the library staff is here for you and have years of experience working with healthcare, nursing and midwifery information.

Need assistance?
If you have a query relating to clinical
practice, if you are looking for the
latest research to update policies or procedures
in your workplace, or if you are
undertaking a college assignment and
feel overwhelmed, the INMO library staff
can assist you by undertaking research
on your behalf. Simply phone or email
the library and the staff will discuss your
needs with you.
We can supply articles directly to you, order difficult-to-find articles, and we can usually supply a list with 20-50 citations offering a broad overview of a particular area or topic of your choice. There is a small charge for this service, but we often run promotional offers on the Nurse2Nurse/ INMO Library Facebook pages.
Information retrieval training
INMO librarians offer one-to-one and
small group training to all members who
would like to learn how to improve their
research skills. The training incorporates
how to effectively search the internet and
electronic databases in order to find the
most relevant, reliable information.
These are extremely useful skills to acquire that you will employ throughout your career. To avail of this training as an individual or as a small group, please contact us to make an appointment.
For further information on any of the services at the library, Tel: 01 6640614/25, email: library@inmo.ie or find us on Facebook by searching ‘Nurse2Nurse’ or ‘INMO Library’.
