Talks Held Today Between Unions And Management Over The Closure Of 90 Beds In St Brigid’s Home, Crooksling, Brittas. 08.11.11

PRESS RELEASE,   Tuesday November 8th, 2011

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, together with other unions, met with HSE management today regarding the closure of St Brigid’s Home, Crooksling, Brittas. The unions were disappointed that management was unable to provide them with the details of how the decision was reached by the HSE to close the facility.

The Health Service Executive has committed to providing unions with an architectural report outlining the cost to the HSE if they were to implement improvements to meet HIQA standards. Again the unions were disappointed that management was unable to provide the figures today to the staff at St Brigid’s.

Speaking after the meeting, INMO Industrial Relations Officer, Derek Reilly stated:

“It seems inevitable that the HSE is planning to close St Brigid’s.  They dismissed any arguments that we put forward for the Home to remain open. The Health Service Executive, at corporate level, appears committed to the closure of public nursing homes throughout Ireland.”

Mr Reilly continued:  “St Brigid’s should be maintained and resources provided to ensure it has a viable future”.

A further meeting between Unions and the HSE is scheduled for Tuesday, November 15th, at 3.00p.m.
