Consultation document: Quality Integration and Collaboration: A Strategy for Community Nursing
Members Update 22.06.15

Dear Colleagues,

As you are aware, the Directors of Public Health Nursing have prepared a consultation document in respect of the strategy for community nursing. This document is now available on our website, you can access the document here. The INMO have requested a formal presentation of this strategy and this is agreed with Ms Virginia PyeDirector of PHN  who is leading on this issue for the office of the Nursing Services Directorate. With a view to same, the INMO has organised a consultation day for members in respect of this and another issue which has been raised by the Social Care division of the HSE, relating to the governance of home help staff when providing care to elderly patients in the home.

I now request that as many of you as possible attend this meeting in Dublin on Saturday May 23rd 2015 to hear the presentations and also to participate in a facilitated workshop with the INMO. Our aim is to develop a collective INMO response to the strategy document and also to develop and agree a response in respect of the governance of home help issues. These are two separate issues and will be dealt with separately on the day. Local/Regional Meetings are highlighted at the bottom of this notice.

I would like to emphasise the importance of attendance on the basis that this community strategy developed by the Directors of Public Health nursing potentially effects the terms and conditions of public health nurses and registered general nurses in the community. It is very important that you are fully appraised of the proposed changes in order to have an informed view and your opinion counted as part of the collective group of public health nurses and registered general nurses represented by the INMO.

In addition, INMO officials will, leading up to the 23rd of May hold local meetings to re-emphasise the importance of being familiar with the proposals and to assist you in developing your responses in order to make best use of our workshop on the 23rd May.

To recap, this is an invitation to attend the INMO workshop on:

Saturday the 23rd of May 2015
In

The Gresham Hotel in Dublin

From
11.00 am – 3.00 pm.
A Presentation will be given by Ms Virginia Pye on the community nursing  strategy. We have also invited speakers from John Hennessy’s office in Primary Care and speakers from the Chief Nurses’ Office in the Department of Health, to address the proposed changes to community
healthcare structures and the implications for public health nurses and registered general nurses’ of these changes.

A formal agenda will issue when speakers have been confirmed. As these matter are of such importance to the future of public health nursing and community general nursing, I again request that you make every effort to attend.

I would be grateful if you could, notify us in advance of your intention and availability in order for us to make the relative arrangements in respect of facilities.  We will need to give the hotel an indication of numbers who are likely to attend closer to the date.
