Newsflash - HSE has finally accepted the INMO position - direct employment of Nurses and Midwives should replace the HSE engagement of Nurses and Midwives through agency
The INMO has just been made aware that the HSE has finally accepted the INMO position that direct employment of Nurses and Midwives should replace the HSE engagement of Nurses and Midwives through agency.
The most recent figures, which the INMO has received from the HSE in respect of the period 1st January 2014 to 31st August 2014 and in the HSE alone, 800 nursing posts were filled via an Agency Nurses/ Midwives.
Circulars have now issued confirming that:-
• Employers can now proceed to convert the funding for agency into directly employed posts; and
• In addition, the HSE has confirmed that Nurses and Midwives currently engaged on the Graduate Programme should also be offered conversion to two years fixed term posts (at the Staff Nurse/Midwife rate). This would result in a further 220 approx. conversions.
The contracts to be issued are for a two year fixed term period.
The INMO obviously welcomes this development and have sought an urgent meeting with the HSE to discuss the implications and methodology of recruitment.
It is our preferred option, that recruitment be based as close as possible, to the area of employment and that previous service, as agency personnel is taking into account.
When the INMO have had this meeting to discuss the implications for Nurses and Midwives of this positive development, we will update members as a matter of urgency.
You can access the Circulars from the links below, please contact the INMO Industrial Relations Officers for further information.
Thanking you for your attention to this matter.
PHIL Ni SHEAGHDHA,
Director of Industrial Relations.
