INMO Members At The Emergency Department In The Mid Western Regional Hospital, Limerick, To Hold 2nd Work Stoppage On September 28th .....

PRESS RELEASE,  Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation at the Emergency Department of the Mid Western Regional Hospital, Limerick will hold a 2nd work stoppage  on Wednesday next, September 28th, 2011 from 8.30a.m. – 12.30p.m.  This action is a further attempt to get the Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly and his Department to address the patient safety concerns at the hospital.

The current difficulties being experienced at the MWRH are the result of the absence of approximately thirteen million euro in funding which was promised for the reconfiguration process by the previous Minister but never materialised.

Until such time as these outstanding monies are allocated to the hospital providing for the re-opening of beds, safe nurse patient ratios in the Emergency Department and the filling of all vacant posts within the hospital, patient safety will continue to be a matter of significant concern for nurses.

Speaking this morning, INMO Industrial Relations Officer, Mary Fogarty said:

“It is simply not possible for this hospital to continue to provide regional services in surgery, trauma and emergency with further reduced budgets, closed beds and approximately 70 nursing posts unfilled.”

The IMNO wishes to thank members of the public who supported our work stoppage this week and would call on them, and local politicians, to come out again next Wednesday and support this further stoppage.
