INMO Calls On Management Of Whitfield Clinic, Waterford To Negotiate On Proposed Pay Cuts To Nurses. 15.02.11

PRESS RELEASE,  Tuesday, February 15, 2011

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has become aware of the intention of Management of the Whitfield Clinic Medical Centre in Waterford to adversely alter the terms and conditions of staff in the service in a bid to make cost-savings. Proposals have issued to all staff to request their agreement to accept pay cuts and a range of other measures which will see their current terms and conditions of employment eroded. The Whitfield Clinic has ignored several requests from the INMO for a meeting to discuss and agree any necessary cost saving measures on behalf of our members working there.

Speaking on the matter INMO Industrial Relations Officer, Liz Curran said:

“Our members working in the Whitfield Clinic have chosen to be professionally represented on this issue by the INMO, yet the Whitfield Clinic continues to deny the Organisation the opportunity to negotiate on behalf of our members. It is difficult to understand why the Whitfield Clinic is maintaining this approach, given that the INMO has successfully assisted other hospitals in achieving cost savings required, whilst also respecting the terms and conditions of employment of our members. The Whitfield Clinic is the only Private Hospital in the South East Region which denies its employees the opportunity to be represented by their chosen trade union on matters relating to their employment. The INMO now calls publicly on Management of the Whitfield Clinic for an immediate meeting to commence discussions on behalf of our members working there.”
