INO /PNA Suspends Planned Industrial Action In Cork (City And County) And Ballinasloe (Co. Galway)

PRESS RELEASE,  Sunday, 22nd November 2009

The Irish Nurses Organisation and the Psychiatric Nurses association (INO and PNA), following a review of the impact on the community arising from the recent floods and the related damage, have decided to suspend the planned industrial action scheduled for next Tuesday 24th November  in the following areas:

  • Cork City and County
  • Ballinasloe, County Galway and its immediate environs.

The suspension of the planned industrial action means that INO and PNA members are now being advised to report to work as normal, in acute hospitals and all other services, in these two areas, to ensure that all the health needs of patients are met at this very difficult time for these communities.

Speaking this evening, INO General Secretary, Liam Doran said:

“The first priority of our members, in view of the very difficult situation facing the communities of these areas, is to ensure all public health services are in place and operating at their optimum level.

Our members will continue to endeavour, as they always do, to serve their communities, in which they live, and to ensure, as far as possible, that the health service needs of people, in hospital and in their own homes are maintained.”

Mr. Doran concluded:

“We will review the participation of our members, in these locations, in the context of any further phase of industrial action deemed necessary by the Public Services Committee of the ICTU, as part of the campaign to protect the pay and conditions of our members.

However, at the moment our members will work tirelessly to service the communities where they live to minimise the upset and inconvenience which is happening at this time.”
