LRC Invites Parties To Talks Over Dispute At Sligo General Hospital. 24/05/09

PRESS RELEASE, Sunday, May 24th, 2009

Talks between the INO, SIPTU and the HSE will recommence at the Labour Relations Commission tomorrow, Monday, May 25th in an effort to resolve the dispute in respect of safe staffing levels in Sligo General hospital.  Nurses and midwives in Sligo General undertook an unprecedented day of action on Thursday last and have indicated to the HSE that they intend to proceed with another day long action on Wednesday next, May 27th.  In the interim the LRC have intervened and both parties have agreed to attend negotiations.

Speaking today, INO Industrial Relations Officer, Noel Treanor said:

“We have accepted the invitation on the grounds that, as with all disputes, a negotiated resolution will be required.  We will commit ourselves fully to such negotiations.

However, the commitment of our members to ensure safe staffing levels remains steadfast.”

Talks are due to commence in Sligo at 11.30am. tomorrow.
