INO Calls On The Minister For Health And Children, Mary Harney To Reverse The Cuts In Our Lady’S Children’S Hospital, Crumlin. 23/05/09

The Irish Nurses Organisation is calling on the Minister for Health and Children, Mary Harney to reverse the cuts in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin due to lack of funding. The Board of the Hospital has been forced to close St Joseph’s Ward with the loss of 25 beds and one equivalent Theatre due to savings of €10m which Crumlin is required to make this year (2009).

Crumlin Hospital is the National Centre of Excellence for children.  These cutbacks will mean that sick children from all over the country will have to wait longer for treatment and will cause more anxiety to their parents as operations and procedures are delayed. It is also worth noting that due to demand for services Crumlin Children’s Hospital has one of the longest waiting lists for treatment already and these waiting times will only lengthen still further as a result of these bed closures.

It is grossly unfair that the Government and the HSE are planning this policy of cuts which will affect the most vulnerable members of our society while at the same time they are bailing out the banks.

The INO supports the rally on Saturday, May 23rd at 12 noon, organised by the “Save Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital” campaign.
