INO Denounce Cutbacks Announced by Mercy University Hospital Management Today. 20/03/09

PRESS RELEASE

Friday, March 20th, 2009

Management of the Mercy University Hospital, Cork, at a Heads of Departments meeting today, announced a series of cutbacks to salaries of staff working within the hospital.  These cuts will result in the elimination of unsocial hours’ premiums, Saturday allowances, a reduction of on-call allowances and non payment of maternity pay and sick pay.

Speaking today, INO Industrial Relations Officer, Michael Dineen said:

“The INO abhor the manner in which this announcement was made to staff.  These decisions were arrived at without any engagement with this Organisation or other representative bodies.  This is a clear breach of the Information and Consultation Act of 2004 and shows scant regard for the impact that it will have on staff members both financially and emotionally.  The INO will not countenance a situation whereby our members’ terms and conditions can be unilaterally affected and will use whatever methods necessary in order to preserve them.”
