INO calls for Common Sense at Sligo General Hospital in the Labour Relations Commission. 28/09/07

PRESS RELEASE, Friday, September 28th, 2007

An emergency Labour Relations Commission Conciliation Conference will take place today in Manorhamilton following a request from the Irish Nurses Organisation.

The Organisation will be bringing to management the real effects resulting from the dismissal of 30 nurses from Sligo General Hospital.  The actions of management are jeopardising the ability of its members to deliver safe patient care.

This conference will also be attended by other Health Service Unions concerned with the proposals to dismiss other grades of staff.

Speaking this morning Ms. Maura Hickey, INO Industrial Relations Officer said:

Management in this area are totally divorced from the reality of service provision.  It is simply impossible to remove 30 nurses, among other staff, from a hospital and hope to continue normal and safe patient care”.

Management’s attempts to delude the public that services can be maintained will not be entertained by Health Service Unions”.
