INO/PNA Announce Renewed Escalation Of Campaign Of Action. 02/05/07

JOINT PRESS RELEASE,  Wednesday, 2nd May, 2007

The Irish Nurses Organisation (INO) and Psychiatric Nurses Association (PNA), following a joint meeting of their Executives, this afternoon (Wednesday, 2nd May 2007), have decided, following the adjournment of talks with the National Implementation Body (NIB), yesterday (Tuesday, 1st May 2007), to significantly escalate their campaign of action in pursuance of a 35-hour week and progress on the elimination of their pay anomaly.

The escalation involves a range of work stoppages, nationwide, moving from one to three hours in duration and the details, with locations and times, are on the attached sheets.

Throughout any work stoppage the INO/PNA will continue, as before, to provide all essential/emergency cover, with services being continued in critical care areas, so that patient care is, at all times, fully maintained.

The two Organisations have also decided to further review their campaign on next Thursday, 10th May 2007, when the INO will hold a Special Delegate Conference in Dublin.

The joint Executive Council meeting also expressed its complete frustration at the failure of the Health Service Executive to grasp the opportunities offered by the expansion of the role of the nurse/midwife put forward by the INO/PNA during the recent failed negotiations.   The meeting again restated the view that the reform, change and productivity measures, offered in their document, readily allow for significant movement on the two priority issues.

The meeting also received calls of total solidarity and commitment, from branches all over the country, with activists detailing the anger and frustration, felt by members, at the complete failure of the HSE to meaningful negotiations on these two issues.
