INO/PNA Decide Major Escalation Of Campaign If NIB Process Fails To Resolve Dispute. 30/04/07
Co-ordinating committees advised to prepare for further work stoppages before end of the week.

JOINT PRESS RELEASE - Monday, 30th April 2007

The joint Executive Council and Officer Board, of the Irish Nurses Organisation and Psychiatric Nurses Association met today (Monday, 30th April 2007), and expressed deep disappointment and frustration at the lack of progress, in the past seven days, in the current negotiations, aimed at resolving the dispute involving 45,000 nurses and midwives.

The two Executives were particularly angered by the failure of health service management to make any meaningful offer with regard to a date for the introduction of a 35-hour week or positive measures to address the pay anomaly.

In view of this lack of progress, and notwithstanding the further round of negotiations now scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, 1st May 2007), at 3.00 p.m., the meeting decided to advise all local co-ordinating committees that, in the absence of meaningful proposals capable of resolving this dispute, to prepare for escalation of the campaign before the end of this week.

It was also agreed that both Executives will meet again, at 11.00 a.m. on this Thursday, 3rd May 2007, to review the then existing situation.  This review will involve consideration of daily stoppages nationwide.
