JOINT PRESS RELEASE,  Friday, April 13th, 2007

Members of the Irish Nurses Organisation and the Psychiatric Nurses Association will stage a protest at the gates of Kerry General Hospital at 11.30 a.m. today to coincide with the visit of Ms Mary Harney, TD, Minister for Health and Children who is due to attend the hospital to open a Palliative Care Centre.

Speaking today, INO Industrial Relations Officer, Michael Dineen said:

“It is no longer acceptable for the Minister to seek to shirk her responsibility with regard to the resolution of this dispute on the issues of a 35 hour week for nursing and midwifery staff and the elimination of a pay anomaly which sees nurses and midwives treated as a lesser professionals than others.

Our members in Kerry are calling on her today to create a forum for meaningful discussions to take place.”
