Management Walk Out Of Cork University Hospital. 02/04/07

JOINT PRESS RELEASE,  Monday, April 2nd, 2007

At 6.00p.m. this evening, INO members discovered that lay management have left the building without agreeing a contingency plan for out of hours cover for the largest hospital in Ireland.

Throughout the day, the INO Co-ordinating Committee met with this management team on three occasions to raise concerns at the lack of an agreed contingency plan to cover the work to rule by INO members.

Management simply did not respond.

Speaking this evening, INO Industrial Relations Officer, Patsy Doyle said:

“Management has failed to accept responsibility for the running of Cork University Hospital by leaving the hospital without a contact manager.  This is a defined breach of the National Disputes Resolution Framework.

INO members are meeting at 8.30p.m. this evening to respond to this wholly unacceptable reckless behaviour which is not in the public interest.

Despite this abject failure of management the INO wishes to stress again that all nurses and midwives continue to go to work as normal and patient care is not in anyway being compromised.”
