This initiative follows contacts between the government, and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, and will take place under the aegis of the National Implementation Body.

The three weeks of negotiations will end on 30th March 2007 at which time a detailed position statement will be prepared and presented to both sides.

A joint meeting of the Executive Council and Officer Board, of the INO and PNA, will take place at 11.00a.m. on Monday, March 26th, in order to assess progress at these talks.
Speaking this lunchtime INO General Secretary Liam Doran said:

“This intensive set of negotiations, to discuss all of the issues of priority to nurses and midwives, is what we have been seeking for many months.  It is now imperative that we commence constructive dialogue that will facilitate progress on all of the issues that are the subject of the current dispute”.

Des Kavanagh, PNA General Secretary concluded:

“If sufficient progress is not being made then our joint Executive meeting on March 26th will have no choice but to announce the commencement of an escalated series of actions from Monday, April 2nd."
