PRESS RELEASE,Friday, 10th June 2011
INMO President, Ms Sheila Dickson, speaking on behalf of the organisation, has expressed her deepest sympathy, and condolences, following the death, earlier today, of Mr Brian Lenihan.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation had a number of dealings with Mr Lenihan, during his time as Minister of State in the Department of Health and Children, and always found him willing to engage, in a constructive manner, with a very strong commitment to a public health service.
Mr Lenihan also attended conferences of the organisation, and showed an acute awareness of the pivotal role of nurses and midwives in the delivery of health care in both the hospital and community.
Mr Lenihan’s death is a great loss to public life in this country and his commitment, since his election, has been absolute.
The INMO extends its deepest sympathies to Mr Lenihan’s family, his friends and colleagues.
