The 21st February 2018 is a significant day for all nursing and midwifery Interns in Ireland. It marks the launch of the INMO Nursing and Midwifery Internship Student Survey 2018. All 4th year Nursing and midwifery Student Interns will be sent a link from the INMO by e-mail and text to complete the survey. The closing date for participation is March 7th 2018.
The 2017 Nursing and Midwifery Internship Student Survey highlighted the need for the following incentives to encourage newly qualified nurses and midwives to remain in Ireland and work in the Public Sector:
• Increases in pay
• Improved staffing levels and better working conditions.
• Guaranteed permanent contracts upon qualification.
• Offers of incentives that at least match what is offered in the private sector.
• Opportunity to take career breaks.
• Increases in availability of funded post graduate education and specialisation.
This week Minister for Health Simon Harris has committed to offering a full time and permanent contract to every nurse and midwife graduate in Ireland.
Message from the Minister " This year we will offer a full time and permanent job to every student nurse & midwife graduate in Ireland. Letter on its way to all of them. Delighted we are in a position to do this. As we invest in our health services & plan more beds & facilities, we need more frontline staff."
This is a very positive announcement for the professions of Nursing and Midwifery, and the INMO wishes to support all Nursing and Midwifery Interns in receiving their offer of permanent contracts in 2018.
