INMO Confirm Situation in the Emergency Department Remains Intolerable - 29.11.17
Press Release
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) can confirm the ongoing staffing difficulties and overcrowding in the Emergency Department in Tallaght Hospital was raised at a meeting with Management on the 22nd November 2017.  At this meeting the INMO discussed the serious difficulties Nursing Staff face on a daily basis and Management confirmed the following:

• There remains a shortage in the Nursing WTE required in the Emergency Department.
• The approved 6 WTE Nursing posts, specifically required to care for admitted patients in the Emergency Department, as part of the INMO/HSE agreement in July 2017, have yet to commence.
• The difficulties in Rapid Access Triage and Ambulatory Care were acknowledged and these are due to staffing shortfalls.
• The Hospital remains in Black Escalation on a continuous basis, including additional trolleys on In-Patient Wards.
HIQA investigated the Emergency Department in Tallaght Hospital in May 2012, and the recommendations of this report must be continuously implemented by the Management Team.
The INMO request the presence of Senior Clinical decision makers on a 24/7 basis within the Emergency Department at Tallaght Hospital.
