INO Members In The Mercy Hospital, Cork To Hold General Meeting Next Tuesday To Decide Their Response To Cuts In Pay By Management. 30/04/09

PRESS RELEASE,  Thursday, April 30, 2009

Nurses in the Mercy University Hospital are set to meet on Tuesday night next to decide on their response to the provocative actions of management which unilaterally removed premium payments retrospectively from their salaries in a clear breach of employment law.

Speaking this evening, Michael Dineen, Industrial Relations Officer said:

“It is unprecedented that management would behave in such an arbitrary fashion given that the unions were actively engaged with them in exploring methods of achieving savings within their budget.  It is not unreasonable to suggest that this engagement was used as a decoy as it is obvious that instructions had issued prior to their meeting of Friday last to cut employees’ pay.

The INO will not tolerate arbitrary cuts of this nature on our members and a general meeting of INO members is scheduled for Tuesday night next at 7.30p.m. in the Centre of Nurse Education, which will include consideration of total withdrawal of labour.

Furthermore we are liaising with our legal advisors with a view to pursing the matter legally.”
