Members Update 25 - 06.11.18

Dear Colleagues,

As you are aware the Executive Council of the INMO were meeting yesterday and today to discuss the next steps following on from the rejection by 94% of INMO members to the employer’s proposals.

At this meeting it was decided that a ballot of members should now proceed for Industrial Action. The nature of this action would be in the form of work stoppages for 24-hour periods. Essential life preserving care and emergency response teams for Theatres and Emergency Departments will be provided.

The first work stoppage, in the first week of the dispute, would be for one period of 24-hours and, if the matters in dispute remain unresolved, this could escalate to two 24-hour stoppages the following week.

The Executive Council have notified the Health Service Executive (HSE) and the Department of Health (DoH) that the ballot is due to commence on 19th November 2018. We have encouraged them to use the time, leading up to this ballot, to arrive at realistic proposals that could avert a strike.

For your attention please see the press release that issued on foot of the Executive Council’s decision and also a fact sheet that issued to media outlets today.

In the next week you will receive information from your Industrial Relations Officer (IRO) setting out further details of the proposed dispute, in addition to details about information sessions and organising ballots in workplaces, which will be required prior to members casting their vote.

A further update will issue to you if there are developments following on from a proposed meeting with HSE management, which has been scheduled for later this week - the date and time has yet to be determined - but it is likely to be Thursday or Friday. Any outcome from that meeting will be notified to you.

Thank you for your attention to this note.
