Attention All INMO Members, Sunday, 14th May 2017
As you will be aware negotiations, between the government and public service unions (including the INMO), are due to commence, in the coming days, with regard to a possible new public service pay agreement.
In that context members are asked to note the following:
1. The INMO will be present, and active participants, in all facets, of these negotiations, which are expected to last two/three weeks.
2. The INMO’s priorities, as confirmed at our recent annual conference, can be summarised as follows:
In this context I attach, to this first news update, a copy of the full text of an Emergency Motion, adopted at our annual conference last week. This motion received unanimous support and will shape how we approach these current negotiations and consideration of any proposals that may emerge. 3. The report from the Public Service Pay Commission (PSPC), published last week, confirmed that there is a recruitment and retention problem, affecting nursing/ midwifery grades, and this should be the subject of detailed examination.
4. Ahead of the forthcoming talks, on public service pay, the INMO, commenced discussions with the Irish Medical Organisation and the Psychiatric Nurses Association, in the context of this PSPC report. These talks will focus upon how best to make progress, in relation to pay, in order to address the recruitment and retention crisis facing nursing, midwifery and medicine.
As is our standard practice the Organisation will issue regular updates, in relation to these negotiations, once they commence in the week beginning Monday, 22nd May 2017.
As you will have seen the Organisation held its 98th Annual Conference in Wexford last week.
This was a very successful gathering, of over 300 delegates, which saw animated debate on over 60 motions. A detailed review of all of the proceedings, at the conference, will be in next month’s (June) edition of our journal (World of Irish Nursing and Midwifery).
Our agenda, for the coming year, has been set and we will now work towards implementation in the coming months.
