We represent the vast majority of all practising Nurses and Midwives in Ireland. Our membership includes all disciplines, grades and specialities from both the public and private sectors. Unlike any other Union the Irish Nurses Organisation only represents Nurses and Midwives and therefore we have no other interests or conflicts to detract from our sole commitment to the advancement of these professions.

All Industrial Relations Officers of our Organisation are qualified Nurses who know and understand the specific difficulties and issues which all Nurses and Midwives encounter in the course of their working life. The INMO offers a full, free legal aid service for all members with occupational or bodily injury claims. We also provide members with a 24-hour legal advice helpline service. In addition, members and their immediate families have access to a totally confidential 24-hour counselling helpline.

We have a very firm commitment to the professional development of all our members and continue to invest in services which will ensure the continuing development of professional and educational structures within all areas of the professions. Membership gives automatic access to our advanced Nursing Library and Research Services and to the many courses, conferences, workshops and advisory services offered by our Professional Development Centre.

The INMO ensures that all issues pertaining to the development of the nursing profession are kept within the public and political arenas through planned, effective political lobbying and media campaigns. We use public relations strategies to co-ordinate campaigning activity and aim for positive informed coverage of nursing issues. We also monitor government and other external agencies activities to identify any implications for nurses and when necessary formulate nursing focused submissions to appropriate Committees and Advisory Groups.
- International Representation through the International Council of Nurses, World Health Organisation, Standing Committee of Nurses in the European Union (PCN), Midwives Liaison Committee and European Specialist Groups
The INMO is the sole voice of Irish nursing and midwivery abroad. We actively participate in promoting the nursing and midwifery agenda on the international scene and have a very highly espected profile at this level. The Irish Nurses Organisation is the only Irish affiliate to the International Council of Nurses, the International Confederation of Midwives and the Standing Committee for Nurses and Midwives in the European Union.
