Background:

This recently formed section –Jan ’06, came about through the amalgamation of what was originally nurse members of the ITNA -Institute of Technology Nurses Assoc. and nurses working in University Health Centres.

We are a special interest group who represent a growing area which continues to diversify.
We need to have a national network to ensure sharing of knowledge and a facility whereby we can have a broad agreement on professional standards in effective health service delivery to students in all 3rd Level colleges in Ireland.

Mission:

“The purpose of the Section is to consolidate and support nurses employed in 3rd level institutions, thus ensuring the delivery of best practice to promote and advance student health”.

Aims & Objectives:

• To promote agreed professional standards of nursing practice in accordance with the guidelines set down by An Bord Altranais.  
• To be a source of expertise on nursing practice in areas of student health.  
• To ensure and facilitate on-going education and professional development. 
• The ultimate objective is to devise a dedicated educational component for nurses  engaged in student health.  
• To promote agreed best practice protocols, policies and guidelines supported by evidence based research.   
• To liaise with statutory bodies relevant agencies and others regarding student health ensuring a nursing voice to influence policy both nationally and internationally.   
• To promote and represent the professional interests of nurses working in student health. 
• To provide a support network for those employed in the area of health.  
• To recognise the needs for dignity and respect for all.
