Questionnaire on the introduction of the Operating Department Assistant/
Operating Department Practitioner (ODA/ODP)
In recent years, there has been renewed interest from a number of professional bodies
on the introduction of the ODA/ODP into the operating department in Ireland. In addition,
a number of private institutions are currently employing the aforementioned discipline to
address staffing shortages
Within this context, the Operating Department Nurses (ODN) section of the
Irish Nurses Organisation (INO) have decided to address this matter by issuing a Position
Statement on behalf of its members. This Position Statement will be based on the member’s
views in relation to the introduction of the ODA/ODP into the operating department in Ireland.
