Nurse Staffing Taskforce issues Interim Report
Monday, 1st February 2016
The INMO is pleased to note that the Taskforce on Nurse Staffing, established as a direct result of our Safe Staffing Campaign, was launched, today, through its interim report and commitment to move to the next pilot stage. The INMO is represented on this Taskforce through its General Secretary Liam Doran.
This Taskforce, which focused upon medical/surgical wards, has brought forward an evidence based process which will determine staffing levels by the Clinical Nurse Manager 2 who will be 100% supervisory and free of any clinical workload.
This evidence based approach will ensure staffing levels are determined by the needs of patients and the requirement to ensure nurses have manageable workloads.
The INMO issued a press statement, this afternoon, which can be accessed via this link.
The government has committed €2 million to fund the pilot stage, in three hospitals across the country. An Implementation Group has been established, upon which the INMO will also be represented by our President Claire Mahon, which will determine the hospitals involved. It is expected that there will be three hospitals, with one large, one medium and one small acute location involved in the pilot study.
The feedback from the pilot studies will then be given to the National Taskforce which will then finalise its complete report, complete with recommendations to roll out this staff approach nationwide.
