The Irish Medical Organisation, following discussions with the HSE/Department of Health under the Labour Relations Commission, have formally advised us that they have deferred their planned industrial action campaign due to commence tomorrow, Wednesday 25th September.
I can therefore confirm that all Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors (NCHD’s) will be working normally, tomorrow, and all services will continue as planned.
We understand, from the IMO, that they have sought further clarifications, from the management side, but, in the interim the planned industrial action campaign remains deferred. The IMO will advise us, in due course, of any developments in relation to this matter.
Apart from the support, we would give to the IMO with regard to this matter the INMO also has an active interest, in the issue, as compliance with the Working Time Directive will, inevitably, involve the reconfiguration of work not only for doctors but also nurses and midwives. We will continue to keep a watching brief on this issue, as elements of the process fall under the Haddington Road Agreement and work continues in this area.
A further update will issue on this matter but, in the interim, all services will continue as normal and the planned industrial action, by the IMO is deferred.
