To: All Practice Nurse Members
12th March 2014
This is a note to remind you that a special meeting, of our Practice Nurse Section, has been convened for 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, 22nd March 2014, in the Gresham Hotel, O’Connell Street, Dublin 1.
The purpose of this meeting is to further engage with members, on all of the issues arising from our change in approach with regard to the provision of indemnity insurance. As stated previously this change derives from the existence of the employer/employee relationship (GP/Practice Nurse) which requires the holding of vicarious/employer liability by the GP/Practice.
We are very aware that this change has caused some unease amongst our members. Therefore the purpose of this special meeting is to try to address those concerns and explain the rationale behind this decision.
Against this background we earnestly advise all members not to make any personal alternative indemnity insurance arrangements before we meet next Saturday week. Any such cover would only see you incur avoidable expense while providing no additional protection beyond that which your GP/Practice should have in place. We would also remind you that we have now commenced a civil defence insurance policy. This will, will, if required, cover all legal expenses that arise in the context of confirming you are an employee and, therefore, covered by vicarious/employers liability.
Finally I would remind you that we have provided a dedicated telephone helpline (0818 370 006), as part of the new cover arrangements. Please ring this for further, specific, advice and guidance or, alternatively, make direct contact with this Organisation.
Thank you for your attention to this note.
