Re: Graduate Nurse/Midwife Programme - Events Update
The INMO have organised three big events for the graduate campaign over the next few weeks which we want all students and graduates to get involved in.
1. Austerity March on Saturday February 9th.
It is imperative that students and graduates get involved in these protests around the country in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford. Wear your yellow campaign tee shirts and make yourselves as visible as possible. INMO youth will form part of the youth delegation leading the entire austerity march in Dublin as we are recognised as one of the few youth groups who have stood up and said ‘Enough is enough, We will not accept any further cuts’.
The Dublin meeting place for INMO members will be INMO HQ in Smithfield at 1pm on Saturday, where you will be given yellow tee shirts and placards for the march. See http://www.inmo.ie/6817 for further information.
2. Emigration Train on February 13th.
The INMO have organised a graduate protest demonstration for Wednesday February 13th at 10:30 outside of Leinster House in Dublin, while the Dail is in session.
An INMO official will be dressed up in a red train costume and 20 nursing and midwifery students and graduates dressed in white nursing tunics will line up behind her to form a train. The INMO hope to have 100+ students and graduates in yellow tee shirts standing behind the emigration train waving goodbye to the nursing graduates.
The leaders of the opposition parties have been contacted about the event and encouraged to raise the graduates nurse/midwife jobs initiative during ‘Leaders Questions’ on Wednesday.
I appeal to nursing and midwifery students and graduates to make it your priority to attend this event. We have to keep the pressure up and this publicity stunt will remind Dr James Reilly that we are not going anywhere.
3. 24/7 Frontline Services Alliance National Meeting.
This meeting will take place on Monday February 18th in Croke Park at 19:30. The INMO want a delegation of 50+ students and graduates to attend this meeting and wear the yellow campaign tee shirts. The graduate’s campaign cannot be overlooked by the media because of Croke Park talks. Every opportunity to get press coverage is vital at this stage of the campaign.
Once again I would like to thank you for continuing to boycott the graduate jobs initiative. The HSE still refuses to release the number of applicants for the graduate jobs which confirms that the scheme is a total failure. The boycott is working. Now we must use every opportunity to show the public and the government that we are not going anywhere and that the graduate nurse/midwife jobs initiative must be withdrawn.
Kind regards,
Dara Ann O'Malley
